A Baby’s Best Friend: How a Dog Brings Laughter and Joy to the Family
In 2017, Brandon and Kelly welcomed Bentley Madsen into their lives, making him the newest addition to their family. Bentley may not have been a human child, but he quickly became a beloved member of their household.
However, when Tyler, their first actual child, was born in February of the following year, he took center stage. Interestingly, Bentley, their furry companion, insisted on being a part of the excitement when Brandon and Kelly decided to have a photoshoot with their newborn.
Kelly describes Bentley as a 5-year-old goldendoodle with a personality that’s “goofy, funny, smart, devoted, and affectionate.” One thing that sets Bentley apart is his complete inability to catch a ball.
Initially, Brandon and Kelly were somewhat hesitant to introduce their playful fur baby to their new human baby. To help Bentley get accustomed to Tyler’s scent, they sent home a blanket and hat from the hospital that smelled like their son. Two days later, they allowed Bentley to meet Tyler, and that’s when their friendship began.
Bentley displayed curiosity about Tyler, often approaching him to sniff and comfort him when he cried. The couple jokingly referred to Bentley as their “baby monitor” because he would often detect Tyler’s distress before they did.
As Tyler grew, so did his bond with Bentley. The two became inseparable, especially when Tyler would share bits of food with his furry friend. Bentley would be right there when Tyler napped or played with his parents.
Eventually, a photoshoot was in order to capture the precious moments of Tyler’s early days. Kelly explained that although they opted not to hire a photographer and decided to take the photos themselves, Bentley was not going to miss out on the action.
“We had everything set up, and as soon as Tyler was in his spot, Bentley appeared!” Kelly recalled. Bentley was used to being the center of attention and having his picture taken, so he had to be right by Tyler’s side.
No matter where Tyler was placed, Bentley insisted on being close, either lying next to him or resting his head on him. Kelly emphasized that Bentley and their son shared an undeniable bond.
A year passed after that initial photo session, and when Tyler celebrated his first birthday in February of last year, his parents had a year’s worth of photographs to commemorate his growth. But who else was there, standing proudly next to Tyler? None other than Bentley!
Kelly spoke about the evolving relationship between her son and their loyal dog, saying, “Bentley and Tyler’s adventures have only just begun!” She even predicted that Tyler might utter “Bentley” as his first word, highlighting the strong connection between the two.
In the Madsen household, Bentley isn’t just a pet; he’s a cherished family member who shares in the joys and milestones of their growing family.
