Newborn Clouded Leopard Kittens Step Outside for the First Time (Video)

Meet Parti and Jaya, rare clouded leopard cubs that were born at a zoo in Paris, in May.

Clouded leopards are found in the wild in South East Asia, and have markings on their coats shaped like clouds.

Native to the lush forests of Southeast Asia, clouded leopards are known for their elusive nature and distinctive coat patterns resembling fluffy clouds. Despite their striking appearance, these feline wonders remain largely enigmatic, as their shy demeanor conceals much about their behavior and habits, particularly in the wild.

Because the leopards are shy creatures, not much is known about them – and breeding them in captivity has been difficult.

A zoo spokesperson said: “The little panthers are behaving normally and putting on weight as expected.”

Breeding clouded leopards in captivity has presented numerous challenges, making the birth of Parti and Jaya a significant milestone for conservation efforts. A spokesperson from the zoo expressed delight, stating, “The little panthers are exhibiting normal behavior and steadily gaining weight as expected.”

They’ve been enjoying the climbing frame in their enclosure, though some of it may be a little high!

As the playful duo ventures outdoors for the first time, their curiosity knows no bounds. Exploring their enclosure with boundless energy, they navigate through trees and climb with youthful exuberance. Although some perches may seem dauntingly high, these adventurous spirits fearlessly embrace the new experiences that await them.
