Cadillac will launch three new electric vehicles in 2023, promising to go all-electric by the end of the decade
Cadillac kept its business presentation simple and to the point, revealing not only that the brand had an impressive performance in overall sedan sales, but also that the luxury brand will unveil three new EV models this year as it attempts to become all-electric by the end of the decade.
Cadillac made it clear when it unveiled the Cadillac Lyriq and Cadillac Celestiq that these two models were only the beginning of a larger transformation that would see Cadillac become an all-electric brand by the end of the decade. While Cadillac did not reveal much about the three mystery EV models, it is safe to assume that all three will be utility vehicles. This is largely due to market demands, with more buyers shifting away from traditional sedans and toward sport utility vehicles. This segment would also allow Cadillac to appeal to more family buyers who are considering purchasing a vehicle for their transportation needs.
Before all of that, Cadillac is focusing on increasing the production of its existing EVs. The Cadillac Celestiq is set to go into production in December, and the brand is on track to build its 1,000th Lyriq, which hit dealerships late last year.In addition to this all-electric duo, Cadillac revealed that combined sales of the CT4 and CT5 luxury sedans increased by 40%, with the CT5 in particular having its best sales year since it was formally introduced. In addition, the average age of a Cadillac buyer is moving downward, with the CT4 and CT5 (especially in Blackwing guise) playing a big role in this. In terms of sheer volume, sedans continue to trail the SUV lineup, with the CT4 selling over 9,000 units and the larger CT5 selling over 16,000 units. This is in stark contrast to the Escalade and the rest of the SUV lineup, which easily sell more than 20,000 units.
