The Strange Story of a Mysterious Dog with Long Hair on the Street, Many People Feel Curious but Reluctant to Approach Due to Its “Ghostly” Appearance
In a neighborhood in Chicago, USA, in July, a group of residents stumbled upon a strange dog with long, shaggy hair. They formed a temporary community to take care of the dog and try to uncover its mystery. Initially, the concerned residents reached out to the local animal protection organization, the Trio Animal Foundation, to seek assistance in dealing with the “ghostly dog” covered in tangled hair, unsure of its origins or breed.
“Rumor has it that this dog appeared out of nowhere and has no known owner. It just wandered the streets, seemingly invisible to anyone’s radar. It was as if the dog deliberately concealed itself to avoid any human contact,” Sue, a member of the community, wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Due to the dog’s terrible condition, the group lacked the necessary grooming tools to trim the matted hair. They decided to take it to a dog grooming salon called Mutt Hutt, located in Missouri. After a while, they were surprised to learn that the dog was, in fact, a female. They named her Ellen, after the famous TV host Ellen DeGeneres. DeGeneres shared her thoughts on the matter: “They decided to give this dog quite a fitting name. Ellen truly is an extraordinary creature.”
After the excess hair was trimmed away, the formerly hidden Ellen revealed herself as a small, timid dog. “It’s astonishing how much a dog can transform after shedding five centimeters of thick hair. When they first shaved the outer layer, she looked like a different dog altogether. Ellen seemed so vulnerable, almost as if she had never experienced the touch of a human before,” the post stated.
It took several grooming sessions spanning over two weeks to completely remove the overgrown hair. Ellen displayed signs of immense discomfort and sought relief from her sore joints. The grooming process allowed her to regain mobility. Despite the initial pain, Ellen gradually warmed up to the caretakers and began to show signs of trust and affection.
The touching story shared by Sue quickly caught the attention of the online community, garnering over 4,000 reactions and hundreds of comments and shares.
After receiving a bath and additional medical care, Ellen was taken to Sue’s home for temporary foster care until she could find a permanent home.
Thanks to Ellen’s heartwarming journey on social media, hundreds of people reached out to offer her a loving home. The Trio Animal Foundation carefully selected a family to adopt Ellen. According to their update, she now resides with a friendly male dog named Linus. “Ellen’s eyes sparkled with joy, and she ran straight to Linus,” the post read. “That was love at first sight, and Ellen couldn’t contain her excitement. It’s as if she finally found her long-lost companion.”
