Embracing the Miracles of Childbirth and Thankful for an Incredible Partner
Arie Luyendyk Jr. has delighted fans by sharing the first glimpses of his newborn twins with his wife, Lauren Burnham. On Tuesday, the former “Bachelor” star posted a snapshot of Lauren, 29, resting in her hospital bed with the baby boy and baby girl swaddled closely to her. Arie wrote, “Never been prouder of my wife than in this moment. She is the strongest woman I know, and I’m lucky to be on this incredible journey with her. We are proud parents of a healthy boy and girl.”
Another photo captured Lauren holding her newborn baby girl’s hand, while additional images showed the tiny twins snuggled up in fleece swaddles. On her own Instagram account, Lauren shared the same photo of herself with the newborns after her C-section, along with another snapshot of the twins lying side by side in fuzzy blankets at the hospital. Arie wrote, “Momma and babies are doing great, and everything went smoothly. Spending time cherishing these moments, thank you all for the support.”
Although Arie confirmed their arrival, he didn’t reveal the names they chose for their newborn son and daughter. The couple hinted at their names during their recent baby shower, where they displayed a giant ‘Baby L & S’ sign in their backyard. Lauren revealed that they had decided on the names for their new arrivals years ago, saying, “We’ve had them picked out for the last couple of years. We came up with Alessi’s name. Right after we decided on her name, we actually chose the next two for our boy and our girl. It just ended up working out where we’re now having a boy and a girl. So we’re just gonna use both of those names that we loved.”
Before their arrival, Arie documented the couple’s time in the hospital as they awaited the surgery. He kept fans updated on how the last hours of his wife’s pregnancy were progressing. In a video shared on Saturday, he explained that Lauren was waiting in triage to determine if she would be giving birth that day.
The 39-year-old later posted a quick video of a nurse setting up a heart monitor around his wife’s stomach. He said, “Lauren is just so excited, she started crying right away. I feel like this is excitement, relief. I think there was a chance that we were going to go home, and luckily, they were able to fit us in.” The couple looked thrilled as they prepared to meet their little ones, especially Arie, who uploaded another video of himself grabbing Lauren’s stuff from their car. Later, he praised his wife for being a ‘tough woman’ after mentioning she was having a hard time with nausea.
Just last month, Lauren spoke about being pregnant during the pandemic, food cravings, and self-isolating after her husband contracted coronavirus last year. Luyendyk said of her husband’s diagnosis, “That was extremely stressful. I kind of suspected he had it right from the beginning. He woke up with a dry cough, headache, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you have to isolate right now.’ He ended up isolating in our master bedroom area, and Alessi and I stayed in the other part of the house, so we just kind of stayed away from each other for a couple of weeks. It was extremely stressful being that close to something that I felt could hurt my babies.”
