Alex Lewis, a 34-year-old resident of Essex, received surprising news when he learned that his 32-year-old wife, Charlotte, was expecting triplets. The couple had been struggling with infertility for three years and had invested £8,000 in IVF treatments in hopes of realizing their dream of parenthood.
Despite the excitement of expecting triplets, doctors cautioned them about the challenges ahead, including the possibility that not all of the babies might survive. Charlotte and Alex were presented with the option of selectively reducing the number of fetuses to increase the chances of the healthiest one’s survival, but they declined this option.
On April 6, identical twins named Annabella Rose and Florence Violet, along with their sister Lottie Bluebell, were born. Annabella Rose weighed 3 pounds 5 ounces, Florence Violet weighed 4 pounds 7 ounces, and Lottie Bluebell weighed 2 pounds 14 ounces. After three weeks, they were all discharged from the hospital and allowed to go home.
“Our lives have turned into a well-orchestrated operation since the triplets arrived,” Alex, now a father of four, expressed. “Feeding and caring for all three every four hours is a lot of work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We understand how fortunate we are to have three healthy daughters.”
He added, “After the triplets were born, I started an Instagram page dedicated to our life with them. By posting our family photos daily, I hope to provide a dad’s guide to raising triplets.”
Despite the challenges, Alex and his family manage to find moments for themselves. They continue to enjoy activities like having a Costa coffee every week, going to the beach, shopping, eating dinner together, and even taking the children to Centre Parks. Alex aims to show other parents that having multiple children doesn’t mean being confined to their home; outings are indeed possible.
“When they all arrived, I was overwhelmed,” Alex shared. “The weeks of concern were entirely worth it. We never believed we’d be so fortunate to have all three. We sold our car to upgrade to a six-seater, and we ensured their space was ready. With only three bedrooms, if the triplets grow bigger, we’ll have to consider moving.”
Despite the busy schedule, Alex manages to find some moments of personal time. “I post images of just me enjoying some ice cream or running with the dog while the girls are asleep. It’s important to show people the highs and lows. Raising triplets is relentless, and Charlotte barely has any free time during the day. So when I return from work, we switch shifts so she can have some time to herself.”
Looking to the future, Alex and Charlotte haven’t ruled out having more children. They’ve even planned to expand their family further. Alex intends to keep updating his social media pages daily to continue documenting their triplets’ lives.
“It’s so easy to do, and I’ve already given advice to so many others. We were fortunate to have supportive friends and family who either gave away old clothes or high chairs, which has significantly helped with the costs. Since having the triplets, our weekly shopping bill has risen, but it’s not as high as most would think. We spend £50 on milk, £30 on diapers, and because the girls all have colic, we’re spending an additional £50 per week on Gripe water and Colief for them.”
