Hensoldt Develops Advanced Electronic Warfare Data Analyzer to Enhance Eurofighter Protection
HENSOLDT Advances Sensor Solutions for Modern Defense and Security Applications
HENSOLDT, a leading company in the field of defense and security technology, is introducing its latest technological innovations in sensor data fusion and analysis for enhanced protection for the European armed forces. By combining its Spectrum Battle Management Suite (SBMS), which creates a situational picture from a huge amount of Electronic Warfare (EW) data, with an advanced version of the evaluation software “Praetorian,” the so-called Electronic Warfare Data Analyst (EWDA), HENSOLDT has developed a tool that allows mission data of the Electronic Warfare to be evaluated much faster and more precisely, and to be used for program planning for future missions. Modern electronic self-protection systems, such as that of the Eurofighter, require system settings that tell the system which frequencies are to be expected and on which frequencies jamming techniques should be used. These system settings are taken from reconnaissance data from previous missions. The more accurate and comprehensive this mission data can be evaluated, the better the self-protection system can be programmed for the next mission.
“The amount of data that modern sensors deliver today can only be processed efficiently with today’s evolution mechanisms,” says Roland Castor, Head of Spectrum Dominance at HENSOLDT. “With the help of our Spectrum Battle Management Suite, we were able to develop an automated solution that provides its worth, especially in the demanding operations of the Electronic Warfare. The effectiveness and protection of aircraft and pilots is thus significantly improved.”
The SBMS software enables the analysis of mission planning for Electronic Warfare operations based on reconnaissance results from radar and radio signals (Signal Intelligence, SIGINT). It is currently being used by HENSOLDT and several NATO and EU customers. Due to its modular software architecture, which allows add-on modules, workforces can be adapted to different units. The SBMS provides a unified software solution for all EW requirements of modern armed forces, ranging from mission planning, control of reconnaissance, and command of jamming systems to database management and data analysis.
On the other hand, the EWDA software ensures the analysis of extensive flight data in the Electronic Warfare with a focus on Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM). Synthetic laboratory tests are available in real time, and complex post-flight analysis is supported. The results ensure the targeted and mission-specific optimization of system parameters in the Electronic Warfare self-protection system. HENSOLDT already supplies the evaluation software EWDA and SBMS. These will be delivered in a new version at the end of the year. HENSOLDT is already achieving a turnover of 1.5 billion euros in 2021, with more than 6,400 employees.
