“The triplets definitely weren’t planned. I never even thought I was pregnant. I went to the doctor because I was feeling really bad, and they told me I was pregnant. I was shocked,” Charliann shares.
The ultrasound session was a defining moment, lasting over 15 minutes as the doctor discovered there were not just twins, but triplets. Charliann was taken aback by this news. “I didn’t know how to face it. Twins were a fairy tale for me. I always dreamed of having twins. But triplets, wow!” she reveals.
After contacting her ex-partner with the news, he was left speechless. However, as the weeks progressed, they learned that the triplets were two boys and a girl – a pleasant surprise considering they already had three daughters.
Though the news brought joy, the pregnancy was challenging. “The pregnancy itself was horrible. I can’t say that I enjoyed a single part of it. It was scary. I had ultrasounds every week. I went for tests every week. I thought they were going to die at any moment,” Charliann admits.
The triplets faced the risk of complications due to Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), which occurs when babies share a placenta and can hinder their growth. This unfortunate circumstance unfolded, leading to a dire situation at 29 weeks.
In a remarkable series of events, Charliann’s pregnancy required an emergency C-section, and Ryan nearly missed the birth due to confusion between hospitals. Thankfully, he arrived in time. On May 31, 2019, the triplets were born within the same minute, with varying weights but united as a testament to Charliann’s strength and resilience.
From spending hours breastfeeding to managing daily chores and her children’s needs, Charliann’s life is a whirlwind of responsibilities. Despite the challenges, she’s grateful for the support of her older children and her renewed relationship with Ryan, whom she now considers marrying.
As Charliann embraces her journey of triple motherhood, her story stands as a testament to the unpredictability of life’s twists and turns, and the unwavering strength that can emerge from facing unexpected challenges head-on.
