Baby-faced crocodile hunter Gavin Hart has forged an unusual friendship with Europe’s biggest croc.
Gavin Hart, a 20-year-old zoo worker, has fulfilled his lifelong obsession with crocodiles by landing a job with the massive reptiles. Moving from Scotland to Spain, Hart pursued his love for these scaly creatures. His bond with Europe’s largest crocodile, a 1,300lb beast named Big Daddy, is an unusual friendship.
Ever since he was five years old, Hart has been handling these prehistoric predators. Inspired by the legendary Australian reptile handler Steve Irwin, he set his sights on working with crocodiles. Now, at the age of 20, Hart has made his dream come true by securing a position at Crocodile Park in Torremolinos, Spain.
Despite the potential dangers, Hart remains devoted to his job and his special connection with Big Daddy. He understands the risks involved in working closely with such a massive crocodile, but his affection for the half-tonne monster remains unwavering. Originally from Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, Hart shares, “There is no escaping from the jaws of a crocodile that big, but I love Big Daddy like someone loves their pet.”
Every time he arrives at the park, Hart ensures he greets his beloved crocodile companion. The bond between the zookeeper and Big Daddy exemplifies the extraordinary relationships that can develop between humans and the animal kingdom, even in the face of potential danger.
