West Ealing, London-based photographer Sandi Ford has perfected the art of capturing a baby’s precious smile in enchantingly sweet portraits of sleeping newborns.
The photographer waits for the telltale signs that an infant is going to smile–flickering eyes and funny facial expressions–and waits patiently so she can capture precisely the right moment with her camera.
“It’s such an honor to capture these brand new people in their first few days of life,” she told a popular photography site.
“I’ll never grow tired of showing new parents their beautiful new babies in a finished photograph.”
But just how does she get these amazing smiles out of the tots?
“There are two kinds of people in the world, according to a statement I once read: those who regard a smiling infant as having gas and those who simply take in the scene. I’m honored to belong to the latter group!” she said. Well, that and a few tricks.
“Sometimes a little tickle on the lips or nose can bring out the big smile if I think one is lurking!”
“These pictures go on the walls, they are a legacy, and I helped tell that story. It’s a gift I never take for granted.”
