Birth is a natural phenomenon that unfolds on its own terms, often surprising us with its unpredictability and awe-inspiring moments. Such was the case for 33-year-old Dr. Gabriela Correia, whose remarkable birth story recently gained attention when a video of her giving birth in the backseat of her car was shared on Instagram.
The video, captured by photographer Deborah Ghelman, portrays the raw and beautiful reality of childbirth. As the video unfolds, it becomes evident that the baby was not waiting for hospital walls; it was ready to enter the world right then and there. Dr. Correia’s husband, Gilberto Godoy, doula Joana Nunes, OB/GYN coworker Larissa Gomes, and photographer Deborah Ghelman were all present to support and witness this extraordinary moment.
The couple’s plan to make it to the hospital in time for the birth took an unexpected turn when it became clear that their baby was on a different timeline. With a 9 cm dilation, the birth was imminent. Although they hadn’t planned for a car birth, the support team rallied around Dr. Correia to ensure a safe and empowering experience.
In an interview with Globo, Dr. Correia shared her thoughts on the unexpected turn of events, stating, “We couldn’t wait to know if it was a boy or a girl, but we preferred to wait and find out for the moment and enjoy another adventure.” The video, which has garnered global attention, showcases the incredible strength and capability of women during childbirth, even without medical interventions like epidurals.
Dr. Correia and Mr. Godoy are now proud parents of two sons: Dante and baby Artur. Born on October 24, baby Artur made an entrance that will be remembered forever. The couple expressed their gratitude to their support network, emphasizing the significance of having loved ones by their side during such transformative moments.
This video not only captures a unique and powerful birth experience but also serves as a reminder of the indomitable spirit of mothers and the remarkable journey of bringing new life into the world.
