Most Extreme Widebody MX-5? Tofu’s Cyberpunk NA Miata Is a Fastback With Carbon Fin

When it comes to unique and outstanding Miata builds, Tofu Auto Works has taken the game to a whole new level with their Cyberpunk MX-5 Fastback. Over the past few months, this NA project has been making waves in the automotive community with its striking design and attention to detail.

As the saying goes, no two Mazda Miatas are the same, and the owner of this NA MX-5 wanted to ensure that his classic version stood out from the crowd. The first thing that catches your eye is the one-off roof and widebody kit, which instantly sets this Miata apart from any other on the road. But what truly makes it extraordinary is the incorporation of elements inspired by the world of Cyberpunk and the iconic Akira anime.

While anime-themed Miatas are not uncommon, this particular build takes a different approach. Rather than featuring cheerful characters or popular anime figures, it draws inspiration from the origins of dystopian sci-fi worlds, specifically Akira. Akira, a classic anime that inspired many modern films of the genre, is a perfect match for the Cyberpunk aesthetic.

One of the standout features of this Cyberpunk MX-5 is the custom shark fin spoiler attached to the roof. Made from carbon fiber and adorned with various stickers, including the iconic double-sided pill with the phrase “Good for Health. Bad for Education,” and the Canon/Citizen corporate logos from the famous Akira red bike, the spoiler captures the essence of the Cyberpunk theme. The addition of disk wheels inspired by Akira’s bike further enhances the overall design.

The extensive bodywork on this Miata is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the body shop responsible for its transformation. Months of work went into creating the widebody design, and more recently, a fiberglass roof with numerous louvers was added, culminating in a long speedtail-type spoiler. However, it is the carbon fin, reminiscent of futuristic sci-fi vehicles, that truly steals the show.

In true Cyberpunk fashion, no detail is overlooked. Hand-painted graphics, custom taillights, and narrow LED headlights that barely pop open contribute to the overall dystopian future aesthetic. Additionally, an externally-mounted oil cooler, commonly seen on Japan’s custom Hakosuka Skylines, further enhances the connection to the world of modified Japanese cars.

Tofu Auto Works has truly pushed the boundaries with their Cyberpunk MX-5 Fastback. This unique creation showcases the owner’s passion for automotive customization and their love for the Cyberpunk genre. With its one-of-a-kind design, custom bodywork, and attention to detail, this Miata stands as a testament to the endless possibilities of personalization in the automotive world.
