Tears of Relief: Long-standing Tumor Removed, Bringing Joy to the Sorrowful Dog
Following the footsteps of The Penguin, Nina’s journey at Wright Manner Rescue began in late November when she became a part of a rescue mission addressing animal cruelty in North Memphis.
Upon her arrival, she carried a burdensome 13lb tumor that dangled from her abdomen. Alongside this, two smaller tumors were identified along her left mammary chain. Her condition was alarming – undernourished, battling a high fever, and grappling with a severe skin infection on her haunches and tail. The process of preparing her for surgery was fraught with tension, as every passing day heightened the risk of the tumor rupturing.
Despite the urgency, it was imperative to take the necessary time to consult specialized veterinarians and complete all essential tests and pre-surgical care. Moreover, efforts were made to increase her weight to a level where she could safely undergo anesthesia.
Each of these endeavors aimed to enhance her chances of surviving a surgery that carried a significant risk of substantial blood loss and a higher-than-average chance of fatality. Remarkably, the strategies paid off.
On the 8th of December, Nina underwent the intricate surgery and emerged triumphantly.
Following a sufficient recovery period, she found herself under the care of one of Wright-Manner’s exceptional medical foster families, where her progress has been truly heartwarming.
The results of post-surgical biopsy offered a glimmer of hope – the smaller tumors were benign, and as anticipated, the larger tumor turned out to be a soft tissue sarcoma.
Every indication points towards a robust recovery, paving the way for her to soon find her forever home. At long last, Nina has a loving family that provides her with the care and affection she deserves.
