THE MYSTERIOUS GIANT HEADS
The sculpture you see in the picture weighs about 50 tons. For comparison, its weight is equivalent to that of about four Eurofighter armed and ready to fight. The statue was transported at least 150 miles from the quarry where the basaltic rock from which it originated is. It was made between at least 3,000 and 4,000 years ago. But there are no deadlines for these giant heads. They can also be much older.
These heads, of which there are currently 17 specimens, were found in the tropical area of Mexico. They belong to the oldest known Mesoamerican civilization: the Olmecs. Archaeologists still can’t explain how it’s possible to move such heavy objects over such a long distance in the middle of the jungle, and therefore without roads or paths. According to the current reconstitution of the history of the American continent, these peoples were not supposed to know neither iron nor wheel. But then how did they extract the huge rocks that were used to build the statues from the quarry? How did they work them And most importantly, how did they transport them?
As archaeological discoveries go on, it becomes increasingly obvious that people from the distant past managed to move blocks of enormous weight. In Central America, the Olmecs were moving giants of 50 tons. In the Pacific Ocean, in the submerged city of Nan Madol, you can find 50 ton blocks high about ten meters above the sea (!! ). In Egypt, you can find granite blocks weighing up to 80 tons, elevated to a height of 60 meters. Not forgetting the “monstrous” monoliths of 1,650 tons from the Baalbek stone quarry.
Evidently, there is still something we don’t know about our past.
