The United States Develops a Next-Generation Helicopter to Replace the V-22 Osprey.
Bell is gearing up for a head-to-head competition with Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky and Boeing team, who are responsible for constructing the only other flying technology demonstrator in the efforts leading up to a record-breaking program.
The aircraft made its first public flight in June 2018, reaching cruising speeds of 195 knots, and was extensively tested in hover mode.
This demonstrator was commissioned for the U.S. Army’s Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator program. Over the past three and a half years, it has diligently validated the service’s requirements for a future long-range assault aircraft.
